Vietnam is expected to export a record of six million tons of rice this year, up 28 percent year- on-year, said a report of Vietnam Food Association on Tuesday.
The figure exceeds this year's target by one million tons, said the report.
The association said that Vietnam is forecast to earn about 2.4 billion U.S. dollars from rice export in 2009.
In December, the country has exported 202,451 tons of rice, earning 82.65 million U.S. dollars.
The major markets for Vietnamese rice include Indonesia, the Philippines, Cuba and Iraq.
In 2008, the country earned 2.66 billion U.S. dollars from exporting 4.67 million tons of rice, according to the association.
