Co-located with AfricaCom, (12-14 November 2019), Mission Critical Technologies [2] Africa is a dedicated conference stream that targets those involved in critical communications, and command & control sectors of working cities.  It is also the only place on the African continent where mission critical technology users from public safety, transport, utilities and more can get together to gather the information needed to forge ahead with smart and safe city deployments, and also the opportunity to network with other like-minded professionals.

With the continent rapidly growing in numbers, embracing digital and the urgency to transform existing networks, infrastructure and even mindsets, this event is a must. Keynotes, panels discussions and a host of practical case studies will shed light on what it takes to be technology ready to deal with and prepare for more people, who will have more requirements for everyday living, not to mention the requirements for future capacity in critical communications and control rooms.

Speakers at this year's event include the likes of Alvin Rapea [3], Secretary for Police, Secretariat for Police Service, South African Government; Ian Schnetler [4],  the Chief Fire Officer, City of Cape Town; Ben Gouws [5], Section Head: Technology Centre of Excellence at South African Police Services (SAPS); Muhumbulo Mbwenga [6], and General Manager, Digital Radio, Transnet Freight Rail.

To offer insights and experience to what it takes to run a fully cloud-based control room solution for the United Kingdom, delegates will hear from Yann Marston [7], Strategic Sales Director at Motorola Solutions.  Mark Zheng [8], Director Southern Africa region at Hytera, is a critical communications expert well versed in what it takes to move from an analogue environment to adopting the latest technology.

Safety is an increasing priority for citizens and officials alike. Amanat Hussain [9] is an expert in the design and implementation of 'Safer City' programmes, having successfully delivered a number of these projects around the world, including the largest police transformational programmes in the UK for the Metropolitan Police Service (C3i programme).

Even the best technologies in the world require the right governance framework to operate optimally.  To share his wisdom, UN-Habitat's Programme Head of Safer Cities, Juma Assiago [10], will  share his thoughts on what is needed to deliver safe cities of the future.
