Global engineering, design and advisory company Aurecon established Unsigned Studio (formerly Studio Magnified) as a visual communication agency within the company in 2018. Unsigned Studio’s immersive, interactive visual communications were recently launched in Africa. The offering amalgamates local African creative talent with the global Unsigned Studio powerhouse.
Selvan Murugan, Aurecon Digital Practice Leader, says Aurecon’s goal is to provide better outcomes, through visualisation, on how we communicate the vision of, and operationalise, major infrastructure and built environment projects.
“We look forward to showing project stakeholders in Africa, including governments, investors and the public, the vision of their projects through creative technology and visualisation. By bringing storytelling and technology together, we aim at helping put everyone on the same page by breaking down complex ideas into beautifully simple, accessible and immersive formats,” says Murugan.
“The benefit of using our 3D models and project information, combined with interactive visualisation technology through the life cycle of an asset, spawns multiple use cases starting from simulation, training, operating and facilities management for our customers,” he says.
Unsigned Studio’s team of 30+ professionals bring over 15 years’ creative experience to Aurecon and offer a full suite of production services including video, animations, films, digital apps and physical installations. With backgrounds ranging from architecture, animation and computer-generated imagery (CGI) to film and community engagement, they work alongside Aurecon’s technical experts and clients to create digital assets that help with the understanding of complex problems in new ways.
Murray Walker, Visualisation Specialist at Unsigned Studio, comments: “Creative digital technology allows the user to walk through several design options, experience a design from the end user’s perspective and evaluate whether a design is fit for purpose. These technologies offer real benefits across the entire project, from design and construction through to asset management and operations.”
Unsigned Studio has delivered a wide array of projects including high voltage electrical training simulations in virtual reality; a film conveying a water masterplan to stakeholders; virtual reality experiences of multiple water treatment projects that have been used for tender briefings, funding proposals and design review; as well as multiple films showing stakeholders new road and intersection designs, complete with dynamic traffic.
“Just imagine testing a new intersection by driving a virtual car or collecting community feedback on tablets that show community members a rich 3D environment. We are embedding visualisation as part of our design process – it is simply the way we communicate with each other, our clients, and the people of Africa,” concludes Walker.About Aurecon
Aurecon is an engineering and infrastructure advisory company, but not as you know it. We’ve reimagined engineering.
Our clients’ ideas and aspirations drive all that we do. We work alongside them like no other firm to co-create clever, innovative solutions to some of the world’s most complex challenges, adding value across the project lifecycle through deep technical and advisory expertise. We serve our clients across a range of markets, in locations worldwide. Hardwired in our DNA are engineering, design and the deep need to leave a legacy. We are as diverse as we are dynamic. As curious as we are clever.
Drawing on our deep pool of knowledge, we bring vital engineering experience, technical capability and design expertise to the table. Then we listen deeply and intently. We see the opportunities, possibilities and potential that others don’t. Through a range of unique creative processes and skills, we collaborate with our clients to re-imagine, shape and design a better future.
We believe humanity depends on engineering; and we recognise we have a broader stewardship role to play. A deep responsibility to hold. As we continually strive for a life in balance, Aurecon clients will be both future ready and engineered for life.
Think engineering. Think again.
