The visiting UN-Arab League special representative, Lakhdar Brahimi, will stay in Syria till Sunday for more meetings with Syrian officials, opposition figures here said Tuesday.
Hasan Abdul-Azim, head of the opposition National Coordination Body (NCB), told reporters after his meeting with Brahimi that the special envoy will stay in Syria till Sunday, adding that he has listened to the opposition's point of view about the prospect of possible solutions.
For his side, Rajaa al-Naser, another member of the NCB, told reporters that Brahimi's meetings with Syrian officials are still in their beginnings, adding that more meetings will be held soon.
The international envoy set foot in Syrian capital Damascus Sunday to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, government officials and representatives of opposition factions.
On Monday, he met with Assad and discussed ways to end the crisis, including "the steps that I see could be undertaken to help the Syrian people to exit from this crisis."
Assad said he is keen to make any efforts successful so long as they come in the framework of preserving Syria's sovereignty and independency and in accordance to the interest of the Syrian people.
