Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos and South African President Thabo Mbeki met here on Wednesday to discuss issues relating to the enhancement of bilateral cooperation and solution to Zimbabwean issue.
Angola's official news agency ANGOP reported that the South African president's short visit is part of the permanent contacts among the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries and, particularly, between Angolan President Dos Santos, the chairman of the SADC Policy, Defence and Security Organ, and Mbeki, the mediator of the Zimbabwe inter-party talks.
The South African president arrived here on Wednesday morning for a 24-hour work visit at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart Dos Santos.
Mbeki was in Harare for 4 days to mediate talks between rival parties of Zimbabwe to seek solution to the country's political stalemate and economic turmoil, before he came to Luanda.
The talks have been suspended indefinitely as the parties are stuck on some key issues.
Mbeki is expected to brief the Angolan president of the development in the talks.
South Africa is scheduled to host the SADC summit from Aug. 16 to 17.
The SADC is made up of 14 countries, Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
