The Ghana National Supporters Union (GHANSU) has answered the national call to support and help one another by organising a large-scale blood donation exercise at the frontage of its national office at Tesano in Accra.
The exercise, conducted by the National Blood Service, brought together over 100 GHANSU members from across the country. Participants went through registration, received education on the importance of blood donation, and had their blood samples tested for blood type and possible infections before donating.
Donors were then assisted onto specialised beds where their blood was collected and stored safely for the national cause.
GHANSU President Abraham Boakye, popularly known as ‘One Man Supporter’, told the Daily Graphic that the initiative was aimed not only at supporting the National Blood Bank but also at saving the lives of those in urgent need.
“We have some of our folks who need blood infusion to survive and live; others need blood transfusion. We at GHANSU want to donate these bloods as our widow’s mite to help save lives,” he said.
He stressed that GHANSU would continue to support the nation in any way it could, adding that its mandate extended beyond sports. “GHANSU is primarily to support and sing for all sporting disciplines in the country, but aside from these core duties, we are also ready for any national endeavour and to support any national cause,” he stated.
Mr Boakye expressed gratitude to Goil Ghana for sponsoring the exercise and pledged the union’s continued support for the national oil company.
Felix Tetteh, organiser of the event and an official of the National Blood Service, described blood donation as a national duty and urged all Ghanaians to emulate GHANSU’s example.
He thanked Mr Boakye and GHANSU for “answering the clarion call to donate blood to help save lives.”
