Former Nsoatreman FC head coach, Maxwell Konadu, has revealed he is likely to make a return to the South African football scene next season following the end of his contract with the Black Leopards.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, the seasoned Ghanaian coach disclosed that discussions are ongoing, with his agent currently engaging several clubs in South Africa.
Though he declined to name the specific teams, Coach Konadu indicated there had been a “flood of offers” and strong interest in his services.
“My agent has been calling to see how I’m doing and all that, and once I’m home, I’ll wait for the next step to take,” Konadu said.
“Definitely, I’ve spoken to several clubs. I only have to wait for the season to end, but for now, we don’t have to go into which clubs are talking to me.”
The former deputy coach of the Black Stars added that the probability of returning to South Africa was high, considering the nature of the offers and the presence of his agent on the ground.
“Since my agent is based in South Africa, it’s clear the offers are coming from clubs there. So, I may move back next season,” he confirmed.
Coach Konadu, who previously managed several top Ghanaian clubs including Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities and All Stars, lauded the competitiveness of the South African leagues, particularly in comparison to Ghana’s domestic competition.
He noted that even the second-tier leagues in South Africa offer better remuneration and attract top talents, making them even more competitive than the top flight in Ghana.
“The second-tier league in South Africa is more competitive than the Ghana league. They pay their players well, and that has attracted top talent. Even during international breaks, matches in those leagues are suspended because many players get national team call-ups,” Konadu explained.
