President of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko has advocated for increased investment in sports facilities as the University of Cape Coast prepares to host the 28th edition of the GUSA Games.
The launch of the 28th GUSA Games was held at UCC, where the event's mascot and logo were officially unveiled.
In his speech, Tanko commended UCC for its dedication to hosting the event and highlighted the university’s outstanding sporting facilities.
Additionally, he encouraged further investment in these facilities to enhance athletic excellence and inspire future generations.
“I encourage further investments in these facilities, enhancing, refining, and updating wherever necessary to meet the highest standards of athletic excellence. Remember, these facilities are more than just grounds for competition; they are breeding grounds for ambitions and natural athletes who can become national icons and champions,” he said.
“A special commendation must go to the University of Cape Coast for your unwavering commitment to hosting and the exceptional sporting facilities you provide. This is a testament to your dedication to student sports,” he stated.
The previous edition of the GUSA Games was hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) emerged as champions, securing 22 gold, 22 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
The 28th GUSA Games will take place from January 5 to 18, 2025, under the theme “Repositioning University Sports for National Development.”
The most recent edition was hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) claimed the championship title.
