Undefeated Ghanaian light heavyweight boxer, Jonathan Mbanugu, alias Jon Power, is set to continue his momentum towards a world title fight with a clash against Albanian Amarildo Bakaj at the Beselidha Stadium in Lezhe, Albania, on August 4.
This twelve-round contest will be pivotal for the 22-year-old, who boasts a record of 11 wins, all by knockout, and one draw from his recent split decision against George Akoto at the Semanhyia Golden Mall in Kumasi on July 5.
Known for his aggressive and hard-hitting style, Jon Power earned his nickname through his relentless approach in the ring. He will complete his training with famed coach Carl Lokko before departing for Albania.
"This is my date with destiny, this is my time, I am ready for this. After this, I will start smelling the world title," he confidently stated in an interview with Graphic Sports in Accra.
Fighting under the Osebor Boxing Promotions and Management, Mbanugu aims for three more international fights before contending for the light heavyweight world title.
Despite Ghana's reputation for producing boxers primarily in the middleweight divisions, Jon Power is determined to break this trend.
"I was told that light heavyweight is not our thing here in Ghana, but that will change with Power Jon. I will break that barrier and win a world title in the light heavyweight division," he asserted.
His manager, Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osebor Promotions, echoed this sentiment, emphasising Jon Power's natural strength, talent, and resilience. "He has a strong mentality, he fears nothing, and he barely gets tired in the ring," Frimpong said, urging Ghanaians to support and pray for Jon Power in his upcoming bout.
