Former Accra Great Olympics goalkeeper, Korley Laryea says he disagrees with assertions that the quality of the Ghana Premier League has declined in recent times.
Laryea made this known during a gathering of retired players dubbed ‘Honouring the Fathers’ at the Mankye Agbona Park in James Town.
On the sidelines of the event, the former Akosombo Akotex player argued that the only thing left is for the local players to have an opportunity to play alongside other foreign-based players in the Black Stars to boost their confidence.
“It’s not down, but my advice is they have to use the local players to join the national team.
Names also add in football. When Hearts are playing Kotoko and have about two players in the national team, it will bring the crowd to come and watch the match.”
“If Kotoko has about two or three players in the national team, Bofoakwa as well, they call supporters from home to come and watch the matches.”
“Our local players are also good.
My advice is they should use the local players in the national team to bring supporters to whip up interest for supporters to come and watch their games.”
Samartex 1996 is currently leading the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League with 49 points, with eight (8) games to go.
