Abdul Karim Zito Head Coach of the national under-20 team, the Black Satellites has admitted that Tanzania gave him a stiff opposition despite a convincing 4-0 win over them in the opening match of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) U-20 tourney ongoing in Mauritania.

A brace from Precious Boah and goals from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Joseph Barnes were enough to give Ghana an emphatic win over debutants Tanzania, on Tuesday.

In a post-match press conference, Coach Zito said, “I am happy we won against Tanzania. Though we scored four goals, it was not an easy match. They have some good players who gave us a cause to worry but in football, you always get punished by your mistakes”.

He mentioned that, Ghana’s performance in international competitions in the past had been poor, but his charges had changed the story, adding, the massive win would boost the players’ confidence in subsequent games.

“Ghana is known to be slow starters in competitions so it’s good that this time around we’ve changed the narratives.

“It’s a good start for us and it would propel the players for the matches against Morocco and The Gambia. It’s also good for their confidence,” he said.

He said “matches between Ghana and Morocco at every level are always tough and we are both coming into the game as zonal champions, so we are expecting a very tough game”.

Coach Zito said, “for now we would strategize on how to approach the game against Morocco to ensure that we qualify to the next stage of the competition”.

The second Group C against Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 pm on Friday February 19.

The Moroccans also won their opening match by a lone goal against The Gambia yesterday.
