Ashantigold’s Italian trainer, Roberto Landi, arrived in Accra at 12:30 p.m. yesterday en-route to Obuasi to begin his mandate of going beyond the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup .
Ashgold have already confirmed their participation in next season's CAF Confederation Cup and promised to assemble quality players to make a mark in the competition.
“Our Italian trainer landed in Ghana yesterday to fine-tune our preparation for both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup competition.
“We are ready for the CAF Confederation Cup and believe me, we are yet to know our opponents at the preliminary stage but we assure our fans that they should not entertain any fears because we will get good results to prove that we are not mere participants in this elite competition,” Mr Frimpong stated during an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic.
Mr Frimpong debunked the assertion that Ashgold would be mere participants in the continental competition as a result of the suspension of domestic competitions since March this year, saying his club will be among the contenders for the trophy to prove their worth as one of the emerging continental club masters.
When he was reminded of the lack of football activities since March this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it would affect their chances, he said the technical team had put measures in place to keep the players in good shape, so there was no cause for alarm.
“The presence of Landi at Obuasi will galvanise the players to fight for honours in both the continental and domestic competitions,” he assured.
Coach Landi, who was a former Liberia national team coach, was appointed head coach of Ashgold in February this year but he left for Italy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
