The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has named business magnate Dr Kwame Kyei, as head of a nine-member board of directors for Asante Kotoko with a task to rebuild the brand as an outstanding team and as a viable business.
In a press statement signed by Mr Kofi Badu, Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, Dr Kyei, chairman of the Unity Oil Group, was retained as board chairman of the club in recognition of his immense contribution to Kotoko as he single-handedly financed the club’s operations over the last three years.
New team
Other members of the new Kotoko board are Messrs Jude Arthur (vice-chairman), Kwadwo Boateng Genfi, Kwasi Osei Ofori, Alhaji Lamin, Kwamina Mensah and Joseph Yaw Adu. It also has Otumfuo’s Ankobiahene, Baffour Kwame Kusi and Mrs Evelyn Nsiah-Asare, head of sports of Sunyani Technical University.
The appointment of a new board, which fulfils club licensing regulations of the Ghana Premier League and its statutory obligations under Ghana’s Company Law, follows an interim report from a three-member panel chaired by Prof. Lydia Nkansah, Dean of the Faculty of Law of KNUST, which investigated the recent operations of Kotoko.
The Dr Kyei-led board is answerable to the Asantehene, the sole shareholder of the club, on policy issues and will have oversight over the club’s management, technical direction and financial control of Kotoko.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II tasked the board to provide Kotoko with professional administration and stability for progress during its tenure.
