The 16-time track world champion, 41, clocked one minute 5.087 seconds to win the C4 kilo title.

Britain won 500m time trial medals through Kadeena Cox, who won silver in the C4 category, and Sarah Storey, who took C5 bronze.

Compatriot Jaco van Gass claimed silver in the men's C3 pursuit, behind defending champion David Nicholas.

Van Gass led Australian Nicholas for much of the final but Nicholas rallied with a lap and a half remaining to win by half a second.

"I've got mixed emotions - I'm extremely proud of my performance, but when it comes down to such a close margin, it's a bitter pill to swallow," Van Gass said.

"It's the one that got away."

Storey, a nine-time cycling Paralympic champion, has now won 18 track World Championship medals.

In the men's C5 kilo, Jon-Allan Butterworth was fourth, Jon Gildea fifth and Blaine Hunt sixth.
