Mr. Marvin Amaju Pinnick, the First Vice President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has assumed role as the President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), following the arrest of President Mr. Ahmad Ahmad on Thursday morning, in Paris, France, by the French Police.
Per the CAF by-laws, the First Vice President would take up the CAF Presidency responsibilities for a transitional period of four months before convening an elective Extraordinaire Meeting.
Mr. Ahmad was picked up after attending the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Congress, where Gianni Infantino was re-elected as President until 2023.
The former CAF President was arrested on grounds of corruption on a Puma deal.
Ahmad has been accused of contract fraud, mismanagement of CAF Funds, and the payment of $20,000 directly into the private bank accounts of federation Presidents.
According to reports, in December 2017, CAF, through the President was handed kit deal worth $312,000 but was dropped in favour of a $1,195,603 for the same equipment to be bought via French outfit, Tactical Steel.
Mr. Pinnick would thus, hold the front of the continental body until October for the elective Extraordinaire Congress.
