Two para athletes Abukari Yakubu and Seidu Ayisha of the Ghana Para Athletics team, have received a cash donation of GH?5,200.00, from Dr. Michael Blank, a philanthropist and a member of the German Industry and Commence in Ghana.
The gesture, is to aid their preparations towards the 2019 Arizona Desert Challenge Games in the United States of America (USA), from May 22-26.
The competition, is part of the qualifiers for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan next year.
Dr. Blank in an interview with GNA Sports on Friday said, it was the least he could do for both athletes, who have trained hard for the games, as they go search for a slot for the upcoming games in Tokyo.
He said it was his hope and prayer that both athletes would qualify to Tokyo and make themselves and Ghana proud.
Mr Otor Plahar, Vice President of Para Athletics Association, called on corporate bodies and individuals to emulate such kind gestures.
He said the support was a huge motivation and relief for both the association and the athletes.
“We are very grateful to Dr. Blank for coming to support both athletes. It would go a long way to help them achieve the set targets of making it to the Tokyo 2020 games.
“It has always been our wish for our para athletes to undertake their training tour and help them compete competitively to bring glory to Ghana.
“The support has been of a great relief because the association is trying hard to get sponsorship, since we can’t always wait on government,” he added.
According to Mr. Plahar, the association was hoping that more athletes from Ghana would the Tokyo 2020.
The two athletes would be joined by Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe, McClean Dzidzornu and Yussif Amadu.
