Abeiku Jackson, Ghana's swimming sensation, has qualified to the semi finals of the men's 50m Butterfly event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, in Argentina.
The 18-year old finished second and clocked a new personal best with a time of 24.44 seconds, reducing his time for the event by 0.14 seconds, as his previous finishing time stood at 24.58 seconds.
After gaining a slot in the semi-finals of 50m butterfly event, the medal hopeful expressed delight about the qualification and remained poised to make it into the finals.
"It wasn't an easy race, but it took the determination and correct attitude, mindset together with my coaches, to qualify to the semis,'' he said.
He added, "the pressure is there but am never in doubt, I have trained well for this and motivation is always to improve on my personal best and that is what made me qualify.
"The semi-final would be a tough hurdle considering the time being made by other competitors but I would do my best and push hard for a place in the finals".
In other developments, the Beach Volleyball team of Ghana at this year's Youth Olympics recorded their first win after beating Monaco 2-1 to increase their chances of progressing to the next stage.
