The UFC has targeted a welterweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Leon Edwards to headline a UFC Fight Night event on June 23 in Singapore, according to sources.
Cerrone (33-10) will look to build off a first-round stoppage over Yancy Medeiros in February. The 35-year-old veteran went 0-3 in 2017, but he produced a strong showing in the Medeiros fight.
Fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cerrone is 5-3 since moving up from the lightweight division in 2016.
For Edwards (15-3), it's actually a matchup he specifically asked for.
In an interview with ESPN last week, Edwards stated, "I think I stop 'Cowboy' [Cerrone]. I think he's a lightweight coming up to this division, and I think he's past his date."
Edwards, of Birmingham, England, is riding a five-fight win streak. He is coming off a TKO victory over Peter Sobotta in March.
