Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS) defeated Pope John Senior High School (POJOSS) 2-1 to win the special Soccer Gala competition played at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The competition, organized by the Old Students Association of KSTS, formed part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary celebration of the school.
KSTS scored the opening goal through Stephen Antwi, when his low grounder beat goalkeeper Emmanuel Opare in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead till half time. On resumption POJOSS threw everything into the game and snatched the equalizer through Eugene Amaglo in the 12th minute. Both teams pressed hard for the much-needed winner but could not score till full time.
However, during extra time, Antwi scored again for his side to make 2-1 for KSTS.
Earlier, POJOSS Old Students Association beat Suhum Senior High Old Students Association 4-2 on penalties whiles St Peter’s Senior High Old Students Association also defeated KSTS Old Students Association 4-2 on penalties.
Mr Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah, President of Koforidua Senior High Old Students Association, who presented the “Aponkye Cup” to the winners, said the association was putting up an ultra-modern Assembly Hall for the school to enhance effective teaching and learning.
He said the 4,000 seating capacity project, which is expected to be completed in two years, is being funded through voluntary contributions and fundraising activities.
Mr Yeboah said the association had already completed the construction of a new entrance for the school and had also renovated the school’s kitchen.
The President said plans were advanced to form the Eastern Connect, which would involve all the schools in the Eastern Region to pursue a common agenda. Mr Yeboah charged the students to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may tarnish the image of the school. He also advised them to take their studies seriously to enable them to achieve their future aspirations.
