Schalke have played down speculation that Germany international Max Meyer is closing in on a move to Liverpool.
Meyer, who came through Schalke's Knappenschmiede academy, is under contract until 2018 and has yet to agree an extension amid reports he does not feel valued by the club.
The 21-year-old this week opened the door to a move to the Premier League when he said the chances of him staying at Schalke beyond the summer are "50-50," and there have been suggestions that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp -- who was linked with the midfielder during his time at Borussia Dortmund -- is ready to make a move.
However, Schalke sporting executive Christian Heidel, who handed Klopp his first coaching job at Mainz in the 2000s, said he does not believe that is the case.
"I last had contact with Klopp after our Europa League match at Gladbach," Heidel told reporters on Thursday, adding that his friend only congratulated him on reaching the quarterfinal of the competition.
Asked by kicker whether Meyer's move to Liverpool is nearing completion, Heidel replied: "I'd argue that I'd know about anything in that direction."
Heidel said there are currently no contract talks scheduled with Meyer, though, and added: "You talk about a new deal when both sides are happy."
Tottenham, linked with Meyer last summer, are also reported to retain an interest in the player.
