Unilever Ghana, one of the leading brands in the Manufacturing Industry, as part of activities lined up for this year’s World Oral Health Day (WODH), embarked on a health walk to mark the day. To mark the day, series of events outlined by Unilever includes, oral health talk in selected malls across the city, distribution of sample of products, dental screening and a grand durbar to commemorate the day. The 21-km walk, which started at Ayi Mensah to the Peduase Lodge, by staff of Unilever over the weekend, was held to create awareness for the need for oral health. The Health Walk was climaxed with an aerobic session at Peduase Lodge in the Eastern region by a gym instructor. The health walk which saw about 200 participants,were taken through several exercise routines to improve their fitness and wellbeing. In an interview with the Head of Communication and Sustainability, Unilever Ghana, Mr. Henry Herbert Malm stated that ‘‘it is a global event which we ware joining the rest of the World to highlight the need for good oral health. We want people to be aware of what it takes to have good oral education’’. According to him, the company is committed to ensuring the public is sensitized on proper Oral Health education to live well. Mr. Malm urged the public to brush their teeth twice daily using toothpaste containing fluoride. ‘‘We believe that good oral health boosts your confidence. We believe it’s a behavioral thing so we want to get kids, we want to have a face-face interaction with 25 million kids 2020. So far, we have done about eight million children’’ He said. WOHD is an International day celebrated annually worldwide to create awareness on the benefits of healthy mouth.
