Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that Russia would not support a UN Security Council resolution on Syria.
"I will not support such a resolution" if it is similar to the one on Libya, Medvedev told a news conference.
However, the president did not say whether Russia would veto a proposed resolution.
Meanwhile, Medvedev stressed that Moscow opposes foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.
He said that Syrian President Bashar Assad must be given a chance to fulfil his reform promises in the country.
Russia abstained when the UN Security Council voted on Resolution 1973 that authorized air strikes to protect Libyan civilians against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
This is the first time that Medvedev has hosted such a big press conference in three years.
