A number of persons seeking to be elected to the District Assembly and Unit Committees in Okere constituency in the Eastern Region have threaten to sue the Electoral Commission(EC) if it fails to organize the polls.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview at Adukrom-Akuapem on Friday, Mr Samuel Obiri, one of the aspirants of Okra Kwadwo Electoral Area who issued the threat on behalf of other aspirants described the consistent postponement of the election as “disappointing”.
He said the aspirants had spent a lot of money to prepare for the election in terms of food and other logistics for their polling agents.
Mr Obiri said all the money they had spent had gone waste and therefore demanded compensation from the EC.
He said the work of the district assembly was a sacrificial one and does not attract any salary or wages therefore the EC should have prepared well before announcing the date for the election.
Mr Obiri appealed to the electorate not to be discouraged about the postponement but turn out in their numbers to vote for their favourite candidates.
He cautioned the EC to put its house in order before the 2012 elections so that the country is not thrown into chaos.
