The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as preparations intensify for the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.

The meeting was held to enable the NPP to formally notify the taskforce of the upcoming election and to provide key information, including the timetable, venues and scope of planned activities. These details, according to the taskforce, are crucial for effective security planning and deployment.

Speaking during the engagement, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said such consultations are an important part of ensuring coordination and readiness for internal party elections.
He stressed that early engagement with political parties allows security agencies to anticipate challenges and put in place appropriate measures.

Mr Yohuno assured the NPP that the Ghana Police Service, working together with sister security agencies, would collaborate with the Electoral Commission and the party to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible presidential primary.

He further reiterated the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to work closely with all relevant stakeholders to maintain law, order and public safety before, during and after the elections.

The meeting forms part of broader efforts by security agencies to promote calm and stability throughout the country’s electoral processes.
