The Akwamu Traditional Area has pledged its total support to the government-led land recovery efforts.
Consequently, the Omanhene of the Akwamu Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, has admonished all chiefs who are frustrating government efforts in that regard to desist from those acts.
The Omanhene further condemned and refuted newspaper publications that suggested that Akwamu chiefs were not in support of this effort by the government.
He declared that no such pronouncement or claim had been made by his office or the Akwamu Traditional Council.
Odeneho Akoto said this at the fourth Akwasidae mini durbar at the Bogyawe Palace, Akwamufie.
He assured the government of Akwamuman’s full support for the work and assured the consultant that his office would deal accordingly with any of his chiefs found to be undermining or frustrating the work of the consultant.
The dignitaries in attendance included the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman/Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Apem Nyarko; the District Chief Executive for the Asuogyaman District, Godwin Bobobee; the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Abigail Elorm Akwambea and Consultant to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Clemence Gyato.
Odeneho Akoto reiterated the importance of Akwasidae as a festive day on the Akan calendar, where the paramountcy together with its citizenry reflect, evaluate and recount the sacrifices and hard work of their forebears.
The occasion is also used to project, plan and set targets for the development and social well-being of the Akwamu State for the coming year.
Odeneho Akoto, Okukudrufou Nana Afrakoma II (Akwamu Paramountcy Queen mother), and Nananom of the Akwamu Paramountcy congratulated Mr Apem Nyarko for his re-election as MP for the Asuogyaman Constituency and on his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama as the Deputy Minister of Finance.
Odeneho Akoto charged Mr Apem Nyarko to bring honour to the President for the mandate given to him and assured him of Akwamuman’s total support. He also urged the MP to use the opportunity to develop, project and support Akwamuman and Asuogyaman.
Odeneho Akoto also congratulated Mr Bobobee and Ms Akwambea on their election and appointment as DCE for Asuogyaman District and CEO of MASLOC respectively.
Mr Apem Nyarko thanked Akwamuman for supporting him for his re-election as MP for Asuogyaman.
He reiterated that with the blessings of Akwamuman, especially the Omanhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the President had appointed him as Deputy Minister of Finance.
Ms Akwambea thanked Odeneho Akoto for his support and assured Akwamuman of her relentless support for all small and medium businesses within the Akwamu Traditional Area.
Mr Gyato also reaffirmed his mandate given to him by the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to “Re-possess all government encroached lands as well as safeguard confiscated mining equipment from illegal small-scale miners across the country.
He confirmed that the government of Ghana had a large number of both compulsorily acquired and vested lands within the Akwamu Traditional Area.
He maintained that his mandate stemmed from the President’s strong policy to protect government assets, more importantly, lands and natural resources and redistribute wealth for the development of Ghana.
He further assured Akwamuman of the government’s efforts to release unused portions of their stool lands back to the stool in accordance with Article 20 of the 1992 Constitution.
