The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Benjamin Bannor-Bio, has confirmed that as of 8am on Sunday, December 8, 2024, no collated results from the regions had reached the national collation centre. 

Speaking at a press briefing today, Dr Bannor-Bio attributed the delay to the ongoing collation process at the regional centres, emphasising the importance of accuracy and transparency in the process. 

He outlined the detailed procedure for collating election results, explaining that votes are first counted at polling stations in the presence of party agents, observers, and the media.  

“The results are recorded on pink sheets, which are signed by the presiding officer and party agents. Copies are then given to candidates, posted at the polling station, and sent to the constituency collation centres,” Dr Bannor-Bio stated.  

He underscored the significance of these documents, saying, “These pink sheets are the key documents that determine the final election results at all levels. They form the basis for results from all 40,648 polling stations.” 

At the constituency level, Dr Bannor-Bio explained, results from polling stations are collated onto summary sheets signed by returning officers and party agents. These summary sheets are subsequently sent to regional collation centres for further aggregation. At the regional centres, the results are processed, signed, and faxed to the national collation centre.

“Reports from the field indicate that results are gradually arriving at the regional centres. We ask citizens to remain patient as we complete this process step by step,” Dr Bannor-Bio assured.  

He called on electoral officials and party agents to collaborate effectively to ensure a seamless transmission of results, reiterating that there would be no changes to the results during the collation process. 

“The EC is committed to keeping the public updated and ensuring the integrity of the election process,” Dr Bannor-Bio concluded. 

The EC’s assurance comes as Ghanaians await the final declaration of results in the closely watched 2024 elections.
