Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has praised Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's ambitious plans to develop Ghana’s railway network, particularly a major line connecting Tema to the northern regions of the country.
Dr. Bawumia announced his railway expansion vision last week during his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, emphasising the need for enhanced connectivity from Tema through Boankra to the North, and extending to the Western Region.
In an interview with Asempa FM, former President Kufuor expressed his admiration for the proposed railway project, recognising it as a crucial step for Ghana’s national development.
“A few days ago, I was listening to him, and he mentioned his plans to prioritise railway development," Kufuor noted. "He spoke about linking Tema through Boankra all the way to the north to open up the country, especially leveraging our iron deposits. This is very promising and indeed the way forward.”
President Kufuor lauded Dr. Bawumia’s broader policy agenda, underscoring his insights into modern governance as essential for national progress.
“Dr. Bawumia is well-prepared for the Presidency and has demonstrated a strong understanding of the issues necessary for transforming a country,” he said. "We need somebody like him who understands modern trends in global affairs, technology, and digitalisation—these are the trends in developed nations.”
The former president expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia’s plan would stimulate economic growth, improve transport efficiency, and enhance industrial opportunities in the regions, positioning Ghana for significant advancement.
