Dr Peter Appiahene, a member of the Electoral Commission (EC), has refuted claims of assisting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to secure the first position on the allot paper.
This follows allegations by Onua TV’s Captain Smart that Dr Appiahene was present at the EC’s head office during the recent balloting for positions on the ballot paper for Ghana’s general election and assisted the NPP in securing the number one position by providing a special yellow-colored ball.
Dr Appiahene, in a statement on Wednesday, noted, “I wish to categorically state that this allegation is completely false and without any evidence. As a matter of fact, I have not been to the EC head office for months. During the period of the balloting, I was in Sunyani, fulfilling my duties as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).”
“There is enough evidence in my university to prove that I was in Sunyani before and during the balloting exercise conducted by the Commission. I challenge Captain Smart to provide any evidence to support his baseless claim, as none exists.”
He emphasised that he stands by his integrity, principles, and values, which have been the foundation of his work since his appointment as a member of the EC.
“My commitment is to help the Commission deliver credible elections for the benefit of the nation, not for any individual or political party. I come from a decent family with strong values, and I have no intention of tarnishing that legacy.”
“The public is hereby urged to disregard these unfounded allegations and treat them with the contempt they deserve. I remain dedicated to serving Mother Ghana with Transparency, Fairness, and Integrity,” he further stated.
