The Ministry of Education and Sports has expressed its condolence to the family of the late Mr Godfred Cobblah, an International Boxing Referee/Judge and a Senior Administrator of the Internal Revue Service (IRS).
Land guards at Achiaman, near Amasaman, killed Mr Cobblah, 48, on Boxing Day.
"Mr Cobblah's untimely death is indeed shocking and a big loss to boxing in particular and sports in general," Mr O. B. Amoah, a Deputy Minister of Education and Sports said in a statement on Monday.
In the message also to the Ghana Boxing Authority and the IRS it said, "we join the sporting fraternity in paying tribute to the life and work of a fine gentleman, dedicated citizen and an inspiration in the field of boxing."
Mr Cobblah was on official duty as President of the Welfare Committee of the IRS had visited the conflict and violence-prone area to check on a parcel of land belonging to some of his colleagues when he was gunned down.
