The running mate of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on traditional authorities in the country to condemn the violence that plagued the recent limited registration exercise.
She also called on them to add their voices to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections in December.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang who acknowledged that electoral violence has the potential of denting the good fortunes of the country’s democracy believes the involvement of Chiefs will play a significant role for all actors to ensure a level playing ground in the upcoming general elections.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang made this call during a courtesy call on Akyem Tafo Chief Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV to begin a day tour of the Eastern Region.
“We all saw what transpired during the voter registration exercise, it was unacceptable. We are urging you all to ensure that proper measures are implemented to ensure transparency.”
Akyem Tafohene Osabarima Adusei Peasah on his part bemoaned the underdevelopment of his area and charged Professor Opoku-Agyemang to use her experience to help the flagbearer to steer development when elected in December.
“With the knowledge you have, the training you have taken many through, and your decision to venture into politics in your retiring age, you have mentored a lot of people both adult and young.
“What I can ask you is, should everything go as planned, use the same knowledge acquired to help in the country’s development.”
