The Member of Parliament (MP) of Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong, has donated food items to some Muslim communities in support of the celebration of the end of Ramadan.
The items include 2,500 bags of rice and 6,000 bottles of cooking oil.
About 200 bags of rice and 480 bottles of the cooking oil, out of the total food items, will be presented to the Office of the Chief Imam.
Communities namely Ashaiman, Madina, Newtown, Kawukudi, Adabraka, Dome, Awoshie, Shukura Zongo, Darkuman and Fadama are to benefit from the donation.
Presenting the food items on behalf of the MP in Accra yesterday, Kenneth Agyapong, General Manager of NET2 TV, commended all Muslims for peacefully observing this year’s Ramadan despite their individual challenges.
The donation, he said, was to support Muslims who have been involved in fasting for about a month.
He noted that Mr Agyapong instituted the donation to fasting Muslims 15 years ago and had continued it annually to support Ghanaian Muslims.
He explained that the MP believed that it was essential that all Ghanaians show love and compassion to their Muslim neighbours, especially during the celebration of Ramadan.
“The MP believes this is a very important occasion and that we must all support our Muslim brothers and sisters in their celebration. We want them to know that we love them and we will always be there to offer our support when need be,” Mr Agyapong stated.
He called on all Muslims, particularly the youth to celebrate the occasion in moderation and avoid any activity that would mar the essence of the period.
Sheikh Jibril Musa, Iron City Central Mosque Chief Imam, who received the donation on behalf of all the beneficiary communities, expressed gratitude to the MP for the donation.
He further thanked God and asked for His blessings for the MP.
He prayed for peace and unity among the populace towards working together to address challenges in the country.
He advised Muslims to enjoy the celebration by showing empathy and engaging in activities that will uplift each other.
