This is because the tax imposes hardships on the citizenry and will repeal it to ameliorate their plightas a listening government.

“The government’s decision to impose a 1.5 per cent levy on electronic transactions is unfair and the NDC will cancel the policy, if it wins the 2024 general election because it will have the blessings of leadership of the party,” the party reiterated.

Sammy Gyamfi,the National Communication Officer of the NDC, who gave the hint, stressed that Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary and leadership of the party had discussed the tax and with blessings of leadership would repeal the levy to reduce the hardships on Ghanaians.

He made the assertion on the ‘Review of the First Quarter of 2022’, and bemoaned the country’s current debt profile and the dwindling economic fortunes.

“The NDC does not subscribe to the E-Levy, and we will not continue to allow citizens to pay the levy should power change hands which is the position of the party because we need to bring honesty to the politics we engage in the country since the levy is not applicable now and cannot be applicable in 2025.

“I believe the leadership of the NDC will stand by the position and even looking for a situation where it will be captured expressly in our 2024 manifesto since the E-Levy is double taxation which affects medium of payment and concerned citizens should not blame the NDC for the passage of the Bill into law,” Mr Gyamfi pointed out.

According to him, the bill is a tax initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and despite the passage of the bill, the NDC would continue to employ all avenues to fight the passage and indicated that until the president and his appointees were able to cut down on their ‘reckless’ expenditure and ‘mismanagement’, the country’s economic fortunes would remain the same.
