The President of Forum for Equity, a Human Rights Non-Governmental Organisation, Prince Bagnaba Mba, has implored the citizenry to exhibit patriotism and sacrifice for the progress, growth and development of the country.
He explained that the economic challenges facing the nation now demand more patriotism and sacrifice to surmount which could only be done through unity of purpose that was exhibited during the nation’s support for the Black Stars qualification to the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals.
“On the way out in terms of current economic challenges, there is the need for all hands to be on deck to support and assist all developmental approaches the government is pursuing, and at long last, the Electronic Transfer Levy (e -levy) will take effect in May and the laudable objective of generating income for the rapid development of the country will be realised,” Mr Mba said.
According to him, there comes a time in the history of nations for her people to be more patriotic and sacrificial for the good of the nation and it was time to measure patriotism and sacrifice in action as opposed to “rhetorical acrobatics”.
Mr Mba observed that the nation had come a long way since the return to democratic dispensation, and despite cynicism, a great deal of infrastructural development in the railway, maritime and land transportation had been achieved including tremendous improvement in the educational system and with the construction of hospitals and medical centres under the Agenda 111 before January 2025, true patriots are willing to contribute positively to revenue generation by encouraging widening of all areas of revenue generation to block waste within the public sector.
He commended Parliament for passing the bill and lauded the president for his swift presidential assent which would result in bigger vision before citizens when the economy would run twenty hours a day thereby utilising vast knowledge and potential and indicated that the e-levy was thin line measure of sacrifice, patriotism and whatever would build, develop and secure the future of generations was worth the initiative.
