The authorities in the Central African Republic (CAR) said they would delay the country's first municipal elections in 34 years, citing a lack of funds, the AFP news agency reports.
The elections were scheduled to take place on 11 September.
The head of the electoral authority, Mathias Barthelemy Morouba, told AFP that they were "behind in organising the elections".
On Wednesday, he had told lawmakers that the authorities did not have the $15m (£11m) needed to hold the elections.
