The outgoing governor of Nigeria's south-eastern Anambra state was arrested hours after he handing over to his successor.
Willie Obiano was detained on Thursday evening by officers from Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was reportedly arrested at an airport in Lagos city while attempting to flee the country.
The EFCC's spokesperson told the BBC that Mr Obiano was being held for questioning, but did not elaborate further.
Other former Nigerian governors have been arrested after leaving office to face prosecution for corruption - mostly involving money-laundering.
