The Chairman of the Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia North Constituency, Yaw Geraldo, says the party will investigate issues that led to the chaos during the distribution of forms for the upcoming polling station elections.
It took the intervention of armed police officers to maintain order and whisk away the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu from the party’s office.
Confusion broke out after party members accused executives of giving preferential treatment to their colleagues in the distribution of the forms for the polling station elections.
Mr. Geraldo expressed concern over the conduct of some party members which led to the disruption of the process.
“I cannot state categorically or emphatically the reason for the agitation, that’s why I said that investigations will go on for us to fish out some of the information that came out of it.”
“What I said to them that the Regional Chairman has paid for 1,000 of the forms and as it stands we have about 2,000 and over forms here so should even the regional chairman pay for 1,000 everyone will surely get his or her own so it’s not only limited to what the regional chairman has paid for but everyone will receive his or her fair share.”
Some party members alleged that the constituency executives were giving preferential treatment to other party members in the distribution of the forms.
The party members are also protesting a decision by the executives to sell out the forms to them after the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP paid for the forms.
The executives explained that the Ashanti Regional Chairman paid for thousand forms to be given to the incumbent polling station officers, but new entrants who are not covered would have to pay to obtain the forms.
This explanation did not go down with the party members who had massed up at the party’s office to pick up the forms to contest for positions at the polling station level.
