The Chief Executives of the thirty-two Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) of the Eastern Region and three other organisations on Tuesday donated a sum of GHC 1.25 million to the covid-19 national trust fund.
The MMDCEs donated an amount of GHC 100, 000 while Wilmar Africa, producers of Frytol Cooking Oil donated GHC 100, 000 and food items estimated at GHC 900, 000.
adb Bank and CCT Group also donated an amount of GHC 1 million and GHC 50,000 respectively to support Government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donations were received by Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, the Senior Minister on behalf of Government.
Last month, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the creation of a COVID-19 Trust Fund to receive a donation from the public to support the well-being of those who will be worst-hit by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Since its establishment, the fund has received various donations from a number of high profile institutions, groups and individuals including President Akufo-Addo, his Vice, Dr Bawumia, and the Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Oquaye who have all donated three months of their salaries to the fund.
On Sunday, April 05, the President, in his fifth address to the nation, announced that the fund has so far raised an amount of GHC8.75m.
The country has so far recorded 287 cases of the COVID-19 with five deaths and three recoveries.
