He was given the stool name Nana Dr Bawumia I. 'Nkabomhene', literally means a unifying chief and according to the people, the Vice President deserved the chieftaincy title for his contribution towards unifying the Muslim communities in the country.

Alhaji Amadu Bamba, the 'Gyaasehene' of Menji presented a citation and traditional stool to the Vice President at a durbar to welcome him to the town as part of his two-day working visit to the Bono and Ahafo Regions on Monday.

Accompanied by Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State and Members of Parliament, the Vice President interacted with Zongo communities and joined Muslim worshipers at Sampa, Banda-Ahenkro and Menji Central Mosques for prayers.

Alhaji Bamba noted that though Islam remained a peaceful religion, the Vice President's efforts to strengthen peace and social cohesion among Muslims in the country was highly appreciated and commendable.

Dr Bawumia expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed on him by the chiefs and people of Menji, saying he would forever be grateful and remember the people of the area for the title.

The Vice President told the people in the communities he visited that the government was working hard to improve on the socio-economic livelihoods of all Ghanaians.

He said the 50 percent reduction of import duties, the Free Senior High School Programme, One District One Factory (1D1F) and the Planting for Food and Jobs (PfFJs) Programmes were all social intervention initiatives geared towards job creation and poverty reduction.

Vice President Bawumia said the government had created employment for more than 350,000 people in the country, and assured the people that each of the 1,080 Zongo communities nationwide would benefit from the Zongo Development Fund.

He urged Muslims to use the Ramadan season to intensify prayers for the government and people of Ghana, particularly President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as he worked to take Ghana to the next level of her development.

The Vice President expressed concern about the deplorable road network in the areas he visited, and assured the people that the government would reshape to improve on them to facilitate easy movement of people and goods to enhance their economic activities.

Alhaji Idrissa Alla Kabo, the Zongo Chief of Sampa, earlier said the government had proven beyond reasonable doubt her determination to develop the Zongo communities in the country.

He urged government to support both secular and Islamic education, saying it would help build the human resource base of the nation.
