That, they said, would help facilitate and hasten the development of the municipality and also foster unity among the people.
At a press conference addressed by the spokesperson for the group, Mrs Priscilla Torgbor, the group said Mr Ocquaye, affectionately called ‘Shagboo’, had contributed tremendously to the development of the area and had been the forerunner in the creation of the municipality.
According to them, for the past 20 years, he had selflessly dedicated himself to youth empowerment programmes in the community, particularly in the area of education, promotion of skills training and also exhibited great passion in the developmental issues of the community.
In addition, they said he had stood as a true and proud member of the NPP and been a loyal, dedicated and hardworking member of the party and that if such an opportunity had come, he could not be marginalised.
Caution
They further cautioned non-indigenes to stay off the MCE position saying it belonged exclusively to the people of the Osu Klottey Korley area.
“We want to state categorically without any doubt that we do not want an outsider to be appointed, we the indigenes of Osu have much to say in this equation,” they contended. They said the creation of the municipality had been the desire of the people of Osu for many years and that they wanted someone very fitting to hold the position of the MCE.
“We do not have the power to appoint and we are not by this press conference threatening government or assuming the responsibility of the appointing authority but we are collectively as major stakeholders endorsing the candidature of Mr Ocquaye as our MCE” they added.
