The leadership of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) has organised a demolition exercise on containers and other illegal structures around the kwesimintsim car station area to open up the place for more registered business activities.
Mr John Davies, the Presiding Member of the Assembly said the traders, who had occupied the spaces without authorisation were engaged last year on the need to move inside the growing Apremdo market for business.
According to him they had been adamant to the assembly's directive which necessitated the demolition action.
Mr. Davies said a strategic decision was taken in consultation with the Kwesimintsin Police Command to detail 12 security personnel on a daily basis to the area including; the Assembly's own city guards to protect the area from such illegal activities.
The Presiding member urged all occupants of unapproved spaces to relocate to the Apremdo market particularly operators of second hand clothing to give way for investors to commence the modern car park project.
Traffic congestion is also gradually becoming a daily hurdle for pedestrians, drivers and people who come to town to do business and the construction of a modern car park would be in the right direction to save the situation.
Mr Davies therefore reminded dealers of second-hand clothing operating within that space to as a matter of urgency move to the Apremdo Market just like the transport services who were now solely operating within the Apremdo market for convenience and appropriate planning of the city.
