Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Leader in Parliament, has called on government to desist from interfering in the administration of the nation's public universities.
He urged the Government not to undermine academic freedom in the nation's universities.
"The dissolution of the Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is not only a threat to academic freedom but undermines the respectability of the management of the institution. There are better ways to manage this," Mr Iddrisu said at the Ninth Delegate Conference of the Youth and Women's Wings of the National Democratic Congress at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Millennium City, Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
He urged the President desist from extending his hands to undermine the academic freedom of nation's public universities.
“The same thing was done at the University of Education, Winneba. The over politicization of our academic institutions will not help the development of our country. We, therefore, solidarise with the workers of the University that the Council be properly created in accordance with law, “ he said.
Mr Iddrisu urged the leadership of the NDC to work harder towards victory in the 2020 general election and called for unity and team work within the NDC family.
He expressed concern over the monetization of Ghana's democracy; adding that there is the need to take a relook at the situation.
He said democracy should not ever be for the highest bidder and condemned the emergency of vigilantism in the nation's body politics.
Mr Sidii Abubakar Musah, the outgoing NDC National Youth Organiser, called for unity within the Party to enable it recapture power in the 2020 general election.
