The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) voted unanimously to endorse President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo’s nominee for the position of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the newly created assembly.
The election of Mrs Adwoa Amoako, the MCE, is one of ten other elections which is currently taking place to endorse Municipal and District Chief Executives for the ten newly created Local Government Assemblies within the Greater Accra Region.
In his address before the election on Thursday at the TWMA, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, observed the need for the Assembly to hasten the process of securing an MCE for the assembly to make to prosecute its developmental agenda.
He said, “As the President said, we are in a hurry to bring development to the people, and I think Tema West would also be in a hurry to bring relief to the people of this municipality. You need the full complement of the assembly so that you can start work.”
He therefore pleaded with the assembly to endorse the MCE to end the continual dependence on his office to get activities of the TWMA approved, which delays those activities.
The new MCE of TWMA, Mrs. Adwoa Amoako, was happy for the overwhelming endorsement of her nomination observing that, “The presence of all of you at today’s event is a clear indication that we’re ready to collaborate for the rapid development of this municipality.”
She informed that her vision was for the Municipality to grow rapidly and become one of the best in the nation, “But this dream cannot be achieved by myself alone. It would require the collective effort of all stakeholders in the municipality, and the need for corporation, dedication, commitment cannot be over emphasized.”
The Presiding Member for the TWMA, Mr. Kwesi Poku Bosompem, said, the President, in exercising his constitutional right in nominating somebody for the assembly, brought somebody who was one of their own.
He observed that her long years of his association with the local government work that saw her as an assembly women for many years, coupled with her expertize on assembly committees, made her somebody who could do the job.
Mr. Bosompem said development in the Municipality was low so the assembly would let her know the areas to tackle first so that they could solve them together to fulfil the President’s bid to bring development to the doorstep of the Ghanaian.
