According to him, President Akufo-Addo was not personally in charge of the running of the country and that his family and friends "have taken over."

Addressing a press conference Thursday morning to assess the 16 months Akufo-Addo government, Mr Ayariga said President Akufo-Addo has failed Ghanaians as he has not been able to fulfil even a quarter of the numerous promises he made ahead of the 2016 elections.

In his assessment, Mr Ayariga said corruption was rising because the President was busily settling financiers of his campaign instead of working in the interest of the Ghanaian people.

“Is it not a surprise that Ghanaians have not witnessed any reshuffle from this government after almost two years in power, despite the massive corruption tag his appointees and ministers have received."

“Fellow Ghanaians, please, please, brace yourselves for very difficult and hard times ahead because President Nana Addo is not working for Ghana but for his family and NPP party. Nana is not in control of the government but people have taken over the nation trying to sort themselves out.
Ghana is finished, I tell you, Ghana is finished. We urgently need a vibrant third force in order to salvage our country and give our people the liberty to control our nation’s resources and restore hope for our poor people." 

Mr Ayariga added: "I’m told that Ghana’s Finance Minister has been awarded Finance Minister of the Year, congratulations Mr Finance Minister. But well, we have taken our level of corruption beyond Ghana, the government of Ghana has borrowed in recent times than any other government and country in our history, and yet he is awarded the Best Finance Minister."

"If awards are being given based on the amount a nation borrows, then yes, our Finance Minister deserves to be the best one.
Minister! Let me take this opportunity to remind President Nana Addo, entire NPP machinery and Ghanaians that we are still paying higher electricity bills, higher rent, higher water bills, higher health care services," he said.
