The Jirapa Traditional Council has denounced moves by the assembly to impeach the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs. Christine Bombanye Amadu. Eighteen (18) members of the assembly have signed a petition calling for her removal, accusing her of breach of procurement laws, disrespecting the traditional leaders and reckless spending.
The chiefs, however, say they are strongly opposed to the position taken by the aggrieved group.
The Council in a letter addressed to Presiding Member with copies distributed to the security agencies and the Electoral Commission said it was against the attempt to kick the MCE out of office.
“We wish to state clearly that, we the Tendaama of the Jirapa Traditional Area are not in support of the motion by some of the aggrieved assembly members of the Jirapa Municipal Assembly regarding the impeachment of the MCE.”It rather asked that the allegations levelled against should be reported to the appropriate authorities for thorough investigation to establish the facts or otherwise.
The Council advised that the assembly members, the chiefs, MCE and the youth accepted to work together to bring development to the area. Mrs. Christine has profusely denied all the allegations made against her, saying, they were completely false and without basis.
She said it was a deliberate attempt to thwart efforts she was making to help improve the lives of the people.
