Madam Ophelia Philomena AOVARE, a 40 year old gender advocate and a development practitioner, has declared her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Navrongo Central Constituency Women's Organiser position.
Madam Aovare told the GNA in Navrongo that she was equipped with a wealth of experience to mobilise more people to join the Party to help move Navrongo forward in development. She said the Navrongo Central Constituency Women's Organizer position was about trust, unity and women's empowerment through political party activism.
According to her, she comes to the position with rich experience, having represented and championed the course of women, both locally and internationally, and had served as a focal person on gender with the UNDP-Joint Party Support and Strengthening Project (J-PASS) for the NPP since 2015.
"I have also undergone several training and training of trainers' workshops on gender sensitization and Advocacy and having been the TESCON Co-Patroness of the UDS Navrongo chapter; and having had a lot of experience as a development practitioner; and upon several consultations within the rank and file of our great Party, the NPP, I have decided to put myself forward to serve our constituency and our Party in the position of the Navrongo Central Constituency Women's Organizer," she said.
She assured the constituents that she would work hard to make the NPP a more winsome Party in Navrongo if given the opportunity to serve in the Party. Madam Aovare called for unity among the rank and file of the NPP in Navrongo to ensure that the Party retained the Parliamentary seat in the 2020 elections.
She said, "When we are united the enemy cannot divide us and it is through unity that we can work against unity". Madam Aovare also advised the leadership of the Party not to be complacent about the 2016 election margin it used to defeat the NDC, which could be disastrous in 2020.
Madam Aovare is contesting the position with Madam Grace Akua Alagiwe, a fish monger.
