The people in his government, he prayed, should also receive the spirit of service and humility from God to back his efforts to holistically address the needs of the people. The President made the supplication at an Inter-denominational Thanksgiving service for the Party's overwhelming victory at last year’s polls. It was held under the theme taken from Psalm 34: 3; "Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together."

The service attracted hundreds of party faithful and sympathisers who thronged the Accra International Conference Centre, bedecked in white, speckled with the party's colours and paraphenaelia. President Akufo-Addo prayed: "...And me, who was selected to lead the team, I continue to seek His prayer, that He gives me wisdom, that He gives me strength, that He gives me compassion and humility, so that I can be a good leader for His Ghanaian flock.”

He stated:  "We know that it is not by our might, it is not by our doing, it is not by our action, but by His might and His glory. "So on this day, it is appropriate that we renew our prayers for our nation...let the Almighty continue to preserve the peace, the unity and the freedom of Ghana."

"We entered the electoral struggle with one statement, we said, ‘The battle is the Lord's; ‘The battle is still the Lord's’, as we try to build our dear nations." First Lady Rebecca  Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and with his wife Samira, party chieftains, senior government officials, the top brass of the security services, members of the Judiciary, eminent clergy, diplomats as well as traditional rulers attended the event.

President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to offer prayers of thanksgiving to God for preserving the peace, unity and freedom of the country during last year’s elections. He said: "It is right that we should give thanks to the Almighty...It is He who has preserved a year ago, the peace, the unity and the freedom of our nation."

The President said it was pertinent that there was recognition that it was God who granted victory to the party, saying, "He has given us the opportunity to serve the people of Ghana and for that we have to give Him thanks and glory." The service was interspersed with poignant and evocative Christian praise and worship songs that set the crowd, including the very important persons at event, singing their hearts out and dancing excitedly to those tunes.

But the highlight was when President Akufo-Addo took to the stage and gave his signature swaggering dance steps to his all time best tune,"Asem papa bi a ma ti, oye", rendered by the Winneba youth Choir. The Reverend Kusi Boateng, General Overseer, Power Chapel Worldwide, in his sermon to mark the occasion, thanked the Lord for the magnanimity of victory.

He said though the NPP entered the electoral battle disadvantaged; "but some way, somehow, though many were the devices of man, the Council of God prevailed." "The victory was not because the President was smarter, it wasn't because he had access to money, but it was all because the hand of the Lord established it...and I believe it is right on course for the President to see the need to thank God for this."

Rev. Boateng admonished all and sundry not to take God's mercies for granted, but to, in all things, acknowledge His works, and be thankful. "We should never think that one qualifies for anything God gives, because there are people more qualified, smarter and intelligent,” he said. “People had access to better things that could have changed the course of the elections, but God decided, He purposed and His purpose came to pass."

 "In every moment of our lives, when God showers a gift on us, we should take a moment and thank him.” The man of God said it gratifying that the Party had not taken its victory for granted but had acknowledged the Hand of God in that successful showing at the polls. The act of thanksgiving, he said, was an act of faith, adding that the President's attitude of gratitude to God for the Party's victory was a great show of faith in what God could do.

He prayed that as the government and nation recognised God's hand in its activities for the past year, “I believe that we have been set up by God to be whole as a nation." "And as we come together to thank God, may He change our healing into wholesomeness... And may the wholesomeness affect our economy, education and every sphere of the life of Ghana," he prayed.
