Mr Kenneth Kelly Esuman, the President’s nominee as the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), was massively confirmed by the assembly members on Friday.
Forty-eight of the assembly members made up 36 elected assembly members and 16 government appointees voted yes to confirm him while only four voted against his nomination.
The election was conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.
Madam Rita Asiedu, Magistrate Court judge, administered the oath of office to Mr Esuman.
Mr Esuman expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his nomination; regional and constituency party executives and thanked the Assembly members for the honour done to him.
He pledged to work with the assembly members for the development of the municipality and implored their support.
He promised to run an all inclusive and transparent administration devoid of any victimisation.
Mr Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister, commended the assembly members for massively endorsing the President’s nominee and called on them to offer their support to the new chief executive.
He described Mr Esuman as a hard working servant who was capable of transforming municipality but cautioned him to be accountable to the people.
In a related development, the President’s nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District, Mrs Felicia Aba Hagan failed to secure the required two-thirds majority votes to confirm her as the DCE.
She polled 17 of the 33 votes cast by the assembly members with 15 of them voting against her nomination while one of the votes was counted as rejected.
The development, left some supporters and sympatisers of New Patriotic Party (NPP) disappointed and vowed never to accept any candidate apart from the failed nominee.
They did not understand why the assembly members, majority of whom were perceived to be NPP members, voted against the President’s nominee.
Mrs Hagan has been an elected assembly member, Government appointee and Presiding member of the AAK district assembly.
The assembly is expected to sit in ten days for the second confirmation process.
