Some of the party faithful were at the venue several hours before the expected arrival of the flagbearer  perhaps their consolence was that they had danced to music provided by the spinners and brass band.

Soon after an announcement that Nana Akufo-Addo had arrived in town and was paying homage to the chiefs at the Ashaiman Traditional Council the rain set in, compelling the enthusiastic crowd to disperse.

Some of the supporters had to seek shelter under storey buildings adjacent the venue whilst others walked through the rain to their various destinations. Some also milled in the rain to nearby drinking spots to “fight the weather”.

A few ignored the rain amidst merrymaking, hopeful that their flagbearer would still make it to the rally.

Some supporters who had lined up the street side holding bill boards and placards, thus causing traffic jam, had to run for cover as the rain began.

If any group had to be commended, then it was the police led by the Ashiaman Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Fleance Adika who stood in the rain directing traffic and ensuring that there was law, order and protection of property.

The rally was part of the NPP presidential candidate’s five-day tour of the Greater Accra Region. Earlier Nana Akufo-Addo had visited the port city of Tema where he addressed a mammoth rally at Community Two.
