Airtel Ghana was the title sponsor of this year's Overall Best Student in Communications (Degree) at the recent graduation ceremony of Ghana's premier journalism school, the Ghana Institute of Journalism. The award was won by Francis Gbadago, a Bachelor of Arts student. For his reward, Airtel offered a laptop, mifi router with data, books, certificate and a period of internship with Airtel Ghana.
Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs of Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira who presented the award to Mr. Gbadago at the ceremony noted that Airtel Ghana attaches a lot of importance to the media and its relationship with them. "Airtel Ghana sees the media as partners in development and not as conduits for the dissemination of information and for receiving feedback. In this regard, Airtel Ghana designs programmes that will enrich the relationships we have with the media".
Mr. Gwira added that through the sponsorship of the Overall Best Student in Communications (Degree) from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Airtel is further deepening the relationship with the media via a different route". Mr. Gwira commended Francis Gbadago for standing out amongst his peers adding that, "he stood out amongst the rest and was not content with merely blending in; it is important that we encourage journalism and indeed communication students to strive for the best whiles in school so it becomes second nature to them as they enter competitive job market".
Airtel Ghana earlier this year also sponsored the Best Report on Education Print category at the Ghana Journalist Association awards. The company has also continued with a continuous engagement of media across the country.
