Airtel Ghana has supported Kosmos Energy Group to provide ICT services to the Nsein Cluster of Schools in the Nsein Traditional Council in the Western Region. Airtel's support will involve the provision of data service for a free one month period and subsequently subsidized to a discounted rate of fifty percent (50%) on the 3.75G internet bandwidth. Airtel's support falls in line with the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) which among others focuses on educational support.
Airtel Ghana's Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs, Donald Gwira, said when Airtel received the request from Kosmos to come on board in providing Information Communication Technology facility for the Nsein area, Airtel quickly agreed because the idea tied in well with its objectives in CSR. "What we have done with the Nsein Cluster of Schools is similar to the arrangements we have done with other schools in the past where we encourage ICT growth", he said. Mr. Gwira said Airtel is opened to collaborating with partners that share in its vision to help improve the quality of education in the country.
Airtel Ghana has in the past assisted other schools with some of its partners to bring internet connectivity to the schools. Among these are some 50 schools under the Accra Metropolitan Assembly's (AMA) fifty (50) Accra Millennium City schools project where Airtel Ghana is providing fifty (50) data SIM cards and 5 GB internet connectivity at a 50% subsidized rate.
